Yoga is the residue.

“The asana is not the yoga: the yoga is the residue the asana leaves in our nervous system.”

~ Judith Lasater ~

It has been a challenging summer for me personally, but I find myself coming through the most difficult phase and moving into healing mode. I bring this up as I have found myself reflecting on ‘practice’ during times of suffering.

A few friends mentioned how my practice must have be supporting me through the challenges, however I found myself paradoxically unable to practice until recently. Often when we are in the depths of a crisis or suffering, practice can feel too intense or painful.

However, I was very aware of the residue of my regular practice, giving me the strength and groundedness I needed at the time. Reminding me of the importance of a regular practice, not only for the immediate benefits, but also to give support and strength through potential times of challenge and suffering.

Just as a firefighter will ceaselessly train and prepare in order to deal with a range of emergencies as calmly and efficiently as possible, we too benefit from a regular practice to support us, and to better prepare us, to deal with the challenges that might unfold in our lives.

Through my recent experiences, and beyond, I find myself continually drawn to more healing, restorative and trauma-sensitive approaches and I look forward to sharing these and practicing with you soon ✨
